had a FANTASTIC marathon! Time sort of sucked (3:31) but given that i had about 4 weeks of training since Rolfmeister Ale Duarte got me back into the running, i'm cool with that. mostly though i was just relaxed and happy throughout, pushed it hard, and had plenty of kick left at the end. One of the clever tools i used was my ability to talk myself into things that aren't real - n this instance, however, it was used to positive effect: when i hit 20 miles i successfully conned my body into forgetting that completely and to operate on the premise i was just starting out on an easy 6 miles run. It worked dreamily.

And now i know i can do a 3-hr time, which i was a bit on the fence about after the SF marathon debacle inn July.

2 good years in a row here. Yeahhhhh!

The time was unimpressive...but two marathons in 7 days is a cool feather-in-the-cap.

Last week's marathon was so good I decided to run one again today! Actually it was because Allie wanted to reprise our 2005 marathon duel in Hawaii. She couldn't pull off the training this year, however, what with work + studies + health issues. We met at mile 25 and, holding hands, crossed the finish line together. Of far greater intelligence than her father, she then hustled back and helped her friend, Caroline, cross the finish line an hour or so later: 2 miles of running, and crossing the finish line twice: smart kid! She hopes to be able to run the whole thing again next year. I didn't have the ooomph today, and didn't try to push it to hard as a consequence, but still crossed in 3:48.

it was a beautiful fall day hear, albeit a little warm for marathoning. The light and leaves golden, the air clean, and the lake a Mediterranean azure. On top of that watching a flowing river of 45000 humans and being cheered on by a million-plus fans was stunning!

The Sun Times captured Olga and I in a post-race smooch:
